Sarah Edwards

“At the same time I thought of my being cast off by my nearest and dearest friends and as I had thought before of Mr. Edward’s kicking me out of the house and finally casting me off, now I put it to myself how I could bear from him the worst treatment of me at home and thought that if he should rest [in] God that it would not touch [my heart] or diminish my happiness. I could still go on in the performance of all acts of duty to my husband and my happiness remain whole and undiminished.” - George Marsden, Jonathan Edwards: A Life, 246.
